Volker Gruhn has been leading the Software Engineering Group at the University of Duisburg-Essen since summer term 2010. His research interests are mobile applications and the effect of digital transformation with a special regard to development and implementation of Cyber-Physical Systems.
Volker Gruhn studied computer science at the University of Dortmund from 1982 to 1987. He completed his doctorate there in 1991. Afterwards he worked for Fraunhofer Institute for Software and Systems Engineering (ISST) and has been a member of the executive board of a software company of VEBA AG for two years since 1994.
He subsequently became a professor for applied computer science at the University of Dortmund with a research focus on the development of component-based software architectures and e-business applications. In 2000 he has been a visiting scholar at the Swinburne University of Melbourne for two months. From 2002 until 2010 Volker Gruhn was leading the Applied Telematics/
e-Business Group at the University of Leipzig.
Volker Gruhn founded the company adesso AG in 1997 and is chairman of the board today.
He is author and co-author of about 300 national and international publications.
